HERBAL COMPOUNDS

Couchgrass Root (Dog Grass), C/S (Agropyron repens)

Properties and Uses: Diuretic, dissolves small kidney and bladder deposits; Demulcent, rich in mucilage, soothes and protects inflamed and irritated internal tissue; Bladder irritations, infections, Antimicrobial; Aid to enlarged prostate. Part Used: Rhizome.

Yerba Matte Leaf/Green, C/S & Powder (Ilex paraguariensis)

Properties and Uses: Contains a rich supply of Vitamins (A, C & B complex), minerals (calcium, magnesium, iron, sodium potassium, manganese, silica and phosphorous), choline, inositol and carotene. Used in South America as a tea. Bodily influences: Stimulates the central nervous system without becoming a habit or an addiction. It induces better patterns of sleep. Acts as a mild diuretic. relaxes peripheral blood vessels; thereby reducing blood pressure. Research has shown that mate arouses the mind and body reduces fatigue and reduces the effects of stress. Mate has been used clinically to assist those who wish to kick the caffeine habit. As mate is used caffeine addiction disappears. The active ingredient in mate (mateine) does resemble caffeine structurally and belongs to the same class (xanthines). Mate does not contain caffeine.

Artichoke Leaf, C/S & Powder (Cynara scolymus)

Medicinal Parts: Flower heads, leaves, root.

Properties and Uses: Cholagogue, diuretic. The flower heads are commonly eaten as a vegetable, but extracts of the leaves and root are said to be helpful in preventing arteriosclerosis and have also been used for jaundice, dyspepsia, liver insufficiency, chronic albuminuria, and postoperative anemia., In some countries, the artichoke is considered an aphrodisiac.

Motherwort Herb, C/S & Powder (Leonurus cardiaca)

Properties and Uses: Analgesic, diuretic, emmenagogue, antispasmodic, tonic, nervine, astringent, expectorant. Its mild vasodilating effects are employed in menses cramps associated with a delayed flow or scanty menstruation; its nervine properties find benefit in PMS and some menopausal symptoms; used postpartum, it helps to drain the uterus and prevent infections. Also used as a general heart tonic in men and women, where it is calmative. Useful in overactive thyroid conditions when combined with Bugleweed (Lycopus virginica) and Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis).

Orris Root Natural, C/S & Powder (Iris germanica)

Properties and Uses: Diuretic, stomachic. Orris root is a good diuretic which is useful for dropsy and other water retention problems. It is also used sometimes for bronchitis, coughs, and sore throat; for colic; and for congestion in the liver.

Peach Leaf, C/S (Prunus persica)

Properties and Uses: Properties and Uses: Diuretic, expectorant, laxative, sedative. Peach leaves will stimulate. the flow of urine, and their mildly sedative properties may be helpful for various nervous conditions. As an expectorant, they can be used for chronic bronchitis and chest congestion. Peach leaves also help to relieve vomiting and morning sickness during pregnancy, but their dosage must be regulated to avoid excessive laxative action. Powdered dried leaves have sometimes been used to help heal sores and wounds. Mildly toxic due to cyanogenic glycosides (containing cyanide), a reputed anti-cancer agent found also in Apricot kernals.

Parsley Root / Leaf Flakes, C/S / Flakes (Petroselinum sativum)

Properties and Uses: Diuretic, source of minerals and chlorophyll. Parsley is used in cases of difficult urination, dropsy and kidney stones. Combined with echinacea, plantain, uva ursi and marshmallow root, it is a good remedy for kidney and bladder infection. Parsley is also used for arthritic conditions linked to defective kidney elimination. The seeds are sometimes used as carminatives. The leaves, bruised, are a good application for contusions.

Caution: Parsley can be warming and should not be used if the kidney is inflamed. Avoid heavy consumption of this herb during pregnancy.

Dandelion Leaf, C/S (Taraxacum officinale)

Properties and Uses: One of the best diuretics available. It eliminates edema and dropsy without robbing the body of potassium. It is especially good for those with congestive heart failure. It is an effective weight loss program.

Stone Root, C/S (Collinsonia canadensis)

Properties and Uses: Diuretic, tonic, vulnerary. An infusion of stone root, maakes, a good diuretic for urinary problems and excessive water retention. Stone root is often included with other plants as part of a rnixture. The fresh leaves can be used externally, as poultice, or formentation, to help heal wonds and bruises.

Kelp Atlantic, Granules & Powder (Ascophyllum nodosum)

Properties and Uses: Kelp is a good promoter of glandular health, especially the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands. Kelp is also high in trace minerals. Good source of natural iodine. Supplies dozens of important nutrients for improved cardiovascular health. Used to balance the thyroid and lower blood pressure. Due to its iodine binding ability in the thyroid, it acts as a radiation antagonist. Also an excellent mineral replacement for calcium and other important nutrients.
